    MINI HAS NO PLANS TO SUPPORT ANDROID AUTO


    With MINI set to launch CarPlay in the Clubman and Countryman beginning with June production, thoughts for some have turned to Android Auto. For over a year we’ve heard that BMW/MINI were testing Android Auto for possible inclusion along side CarPlay for a later rollout. Now we have confirmation that BMW/MINI has decided to not integrate Android Auto in future cars.


    Techcrunch spoke with Dieter May, BMW’s senior vice president of Digital Services and Business Models and got the scoop:


    “We offer [Apple’s] CarPlay as an option but not Android Auto,” he said. “We believe the changes that are coming to the inside of the car and the user experience — like self-driving cars — you have to control the customer interface. That’s part of the brand experience and for that, I don’t want to have an Android screen and I especially want to be able to deeply integrate these systems.”

    Ab der Produktion im Sommer 2017 wird es Carplay geben. D.h ein Nachrüsten wird nicht möglich sein?
    Beispielsweise um sich die Navi von Mini zu sparen, nimmt man nur Radio Boost und könnte dann Carplay laufen lassen.
    Und Android Auto fällt ganz weg.

    Eigentlich wollte ich jetzt im März den neuen Countryman kaufen aber mit der Aussage bin ich am überlegen. Gerne möchte ich mir die Kosten des Navi´s sparen, da die Nutzung zu selten ist.
    Nur das Navi Prof. hat Touchscreen oder? Carplay benötigt doch die Toucheingabe. Ggf. funktioniert das mit dem iDrive Button.


    Das meinst du dann aber auch mit der Headunit oder? Damit diese den Touch bekommt bei dem Radio boost?

    Denke ich mir auch. Und ob das Radio Boost System im Sommer einen Touch bekommt bezweifel ich doch sehr...da würden die sich ja ins eigene Fleisch schneiden.
    Vielleicht bestelle ich doch das Business Paket.
